How are you coping?

We at IronGate wanted to send some positivity your way during this challenging time, and share some of the ways we’re coping with our new (and hopefully) temporary way of life. And if you have any suggestions you’d like to share with us on how you’re adjusting to social distancing, or simply want to let us know how you’re doing in general, feel free to send us a message! We’d love to stay connected even though we’re separated for a while.

5 things we can all do:

Limit our news intake. Pick a news source and set an amount of time you’ll spend with consumption. The more you search, the more time you’ll spend, which again, is counterproductive.

Don’t forget the past. We’ve all been through tough times and situations we thought were hopeless. You’re stronger from those experiences and we all have the resilience to prevail.

Help your neighbors. Check on your neighbors — especially the older people. I know some of us at IronGate have simply called our neighbors and were able to pick up some grocery items for them. We helped them out, and also limited everyone’s risks a bit.

Utilize your spare time. Although it’s discouraging not to be able to work on your tasks at hand, you can work on those things that you’ve been putting off. Take advantage of the time to accomplish some of those things and maybe even learn new ways to work. We’ve learned a lot about video conferencing and how it can be a great tool for us in the future.

Try to keep entertained. Read a good book or watch some comedy. Distractions will help calm your nerves and relieve some stress — which will improve both your physical and mental health. We recently saw this video from John Krasinski. A great source for some optimism and entertainment! Movies and music can be a great escape and therapeutic as well.

What IronGate’s doing:

Huffine has been enjoying playing Canasta with his wife. He won’t talk about winning percentages though… weird. He has also been riding his bike to enjoy the warmer weather.

Jeff stumbled upon Nate Bargatze on Netflix. It’s great standup comedy that’s both clean and clever.

Christine has been playing Candyland and I Spy with her girls. She has also been listening to John Prine (Godspeed).

Derek has recently watched Pixar’s Onward, and also recommends Mark Rober’s YouTube channel.

Kristin is a serious gamer and has mostly been playing Animal Crossing New Horizons with her friends online.

Jeremy has watched both Community and Kim’s Convenience to get away from some stress and recalibrate a bit.

We hope you find these tips helpful.

IronGate is here to help as much as we can. We know Christine has reached out to a lot of you to help with any Covid-19 announcements for your site. We’re also working on a short video as an example of how you might be able to get your message out in regards to our current situation. We will be sending that soon!

We’re still working and here to help! Please let us know if we can help in any way. We’ll get through this together.
